Project Overview

Fornebubanen is a new metro line between Majorstuen and Fornebu, and one of the largest public transport projects in Norway. The project includes new tunnels, stations, technical buildings, and extensive adaptations to existing infrastructure both above and below ground. Marthinsen & Duvholt has been, and continues to be, involved in several sub‑projects along the alignment, delivering groundworks, blasting, water and wastewater systems, technical infrastructure, and urban and road‑interface adaptations.

Work Performed by MD

Groundworks and Mass Handling

  • Establishment of excavation pits, earthworks, and mass management in dense urban environments
  • High requirements for logistics, safety and neighbourhood considerations

Blasting and Rock Support

  • Drill‑and‑blast works for tunnel corridors and technical rooms
  • Rock support using bolts, mesh and shotcrete

Water and Wastewater Installations and Stormwater Management

  • Replacement and installation of new water and wastewater pipelines
  • Stormwater management solutions and connections to existing municipal systems

Cable Trenches and Conduit Routes

  • Trenches, culverts and conduit systems for power, signal and telecommunication
  • Adapted to metro, road and surrounding urban infrastructure

Concrete and Structural Works

  • Foundations, retaining walls, technical platforms and structural elements
  • Supporting station access points and technical installations

Terrain Shaping and Urban Integration

  • Landscaping, terrain adjustments, pedestrian and bicycle connections
  • Integration of new metro infrastructure with existing urban areas

Zero‑Emission Construction Site

  • Operating a fully electric construction site places high demands on the contractor, requiring sufficient power capacity, efficient charging logistics and precise planning to manage machinery with limited operating time.

External Environment and HSE

Fornebubanen is a complex, urban and fully electric construction project with many parallel activities and tight schedules. The works are carried out in close proximity to existing buildings, busy roads, technical infrastructure and vulnerable road users. Challenging ground conditions, limited space for site facilities, and extensive coordination with adjacent contracts have placed high demands on planning, flexibility and collaboration.
