Rock excavation and controlled blasting are essential components of many of our projects at Marthinsen & Duvholt. We perform this type of work to varying degrees across different assignments, and some projects require particularly extensive rock excavation and blasting operations.
An example of our expertise in rock excavation and controlled blasting is our response to the rockfall over the E18 at Bommestad. When the incident occurred, our machinery was already operating just a short distance away at the EK3 Farriseidet project. This enabled us to immediately support the Norwegian Public Roads Administration with stabilisation and clean‑up operations.
To secure the remaining open traffic lane, a container barrier wall was established while blasting works were carried out as part of the stabilisation process.
The container‑wall barrier solution is now used in several other projects for the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. Our rapid response to the Bommestad rockfall demonstrates our ability to manage critical and unexpected situations safely and efficiently.
The experience gained from the Bommestad incident proved invaluable when we were tasked with establishing a 30‑metre‑high rock cut only six metres from active railway tracks at the Bollerud cutting, where train traffic continued without interruption.
This project stands as a strong example of safe and collaborative planning in practice.
We are happy to answer any questions or discuss the projects and experience we have built over 25 years as a contractor.
